James Cameron’s AVATAR

I'm sure by now that most of you have seen the movie AVATAR. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment released the DVD on Earth Day, April 22nd. Which was fitting given the plot of the movie.

If you haven't seen it, (and you should) here is a synopsis:

Avatar is an epic science fiction film written and directed by James Cameron and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, and Michelle Rodriguez. The film is set in 2154, when humans are mining a precious mineral called unobtanium on Pandora, a lush moon of a gas giant in the Alpha Centauri star system. The expansion of the mining colony threatens the continued existence of a local tribe of Na'vi—a humanoid species indigenous to Pandora. The film's title refers to the genetically engineered Na'vi-human hybrid bodies used by a team of researchers to interact with the natives of Pandora.

Personally I thought the movie was great. I loved how the film was extremely relevant in today's world. It teaches us that we need to nurture and respect our planet and not let greed and corruption take over.

AVATAR's special effects were top notch. I only wish I got to see it in 3D, because I'm sure that was fabulous. The scenery was beautiful as well. As for the story line, some people say it's just Dances with wolves regurgitated into a sci-fi flick. I can't say I disagree, but I just don't care, because it was still a beautiful movie!

I am a little disappointed in the Blu-ray version of the DVD. I really didn't think it was very special at all. There are no bonus features or anything. It is virtually the same as the regular version.

Avatar is available to purchase at Amazon for $19.99.

Although I did receive the DVD for free to review, I was in no other way compensated for this post. All opinions are purely my own.
